The run

Out by the Guide’s light

Into the night

Night has no bottom here. The Guide’s light reaches a few steps around your champion. Whatever waits in the dark won’t see you until you walk up with fire, and you won’t see it either.

Take what you can

Chests of silver, manors, rituals, wayside lanterns. Everything you pick up is carried, not kept. The longer you stay, the more you risk.

The Hunt rides out

Raid a manor or break a ritual and the Order sends riders after you. Every wave gilds the sky. When their sun stands overhead, they come without pause.

Pick a field, a champion and a goal before you leave camp.
Night on the heath. Past your light there are only shapes, eyes and other fires.

The story

The Order sold the light

Once, every lantern on the border was lit from the Guide’s fire. Then the Order learned that fear pays better than guarding the border. The opening comic, painted in code like the rest of the game, tells how the night came back.

Until someone in the chapter worked out that a god who gives light for free is bad business. Fear pays better.
They melted down the lanterns lit from my fire and cast a sun that shone only on their walls. The darker the nights, the more people paid for day.
While the villages burned, the Order gazed into its sun. You can stare into gold for a very long time. You stop seeing the dark.
He believed. Who wouldn’t, when promised the dead? Everyone the Order abandoned followed him. They called him the Archpriest.
The Order of the Golden Sun

The Order of the Golden Sun

They guard their walls, sell places behind them, and leave the night alone because the night brings customers. They hunt the Caravan because people with hope stop paying.

The way back

Their gold stays behind you

Leave the field by any corner of the map. Out past their glow the dark belongs to the Caravan again, and the Guide’s light is enough to see the road home.

I heard every prayer that never reached me. So I came down.
The Hunt closes in. Their gold glow is easy to spot and hard to outrun.

The other enemy

The Archpriest’s Fold

The Archpriest’s Fold

A shepherd who lost everyone and listened to the voice that promised them back. His faithful pray in circles until their faith flows up into the rift. Something old is waiting on the other side.
